Auburn Hills is a city in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 19,837 at the 2000 census with a projection of 20,986 in 2006. The city was formed in 1983 from the now defunct Pontiac Township. Auburn Hills is home to the world headquarters of Chrysler, the Walter P. Chrysler Museum, Volkswagen of America, BorgWarner, Great Lakes Crossing shopping center, as well as The Palace of Auburn Hills, home of both the National Basketball Association\'s Detroit Pistons and the Women\'s National Basketball Association\'s Detroit Shock.
